“On the Road again, Ooooh I just can’t wait to get on the road again!”
Ah the words of Willie Nelson; Perhaps, if my life were a movie, this song would be on repeat. Life over the past year was a blur of travel and a whole lot of miles in Canada and the USA. And I sit here wondering: Where has the time gone?
I began this year on the show circuit with a good friend and colleague, Eva Shockey. Together, we covered five states and three provinces in just ten short weeks throughout the spring. Wrapping up that tour, I went on to work for other chapters in conversation before preparing for the busy seasons ahead. May through mid-June brought me to Jim Shockey’s Pacific Rim Guide Outfitters for black bear season. Mid-June through the end of September, I was guiding and trail cooking up in the beautiful Northwest Territories for Gana River Outfitters, before migrating south at the end of September to the reaches of northern British Columbia to guide for Sikanni River Outfitters. I now find myself getting set for my last adventure of this fall, where I will be meeting up with the rest of the Shockey team in Saskatchewan for their whitetail season. Hmm, I think I now know where the time went!
With one month left on the road for work, I already find myself looking forward to the next great adventure! My column in Australia for Wild Deer & Hunting Adventures is in full swing, and I recently kicked off my newest column with the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia’s Mountain Hunter Magazine. The daunting task of collecting my random notes of inspiration from the crevices of my hunting pack, and the inserts in my travel journal, has begun.
Coming up is my debut hosting seminars throughout the show season in Canada and the USA, sharing first hand what it is like to be a woman in the hunting industry. My hope is to inspire the next generation, and to share what I have learned. The last few years have truly been memorable, and I look forward to sharing them with you.
